HSR uses 'Pingyao Ancient City' station, 8–10 km from the walls (~20 min by taxi/e-cart). Plain 'Pingyao' is the old station — ~1 km out, an easy walk.
Stayed over and walked the empty lanes at 9pm — red lanterns, grey tiles, not a tour flag in sight. Magic.
