Tip Gardens are calmest right at opening, before the tour flags arrive — the Humble Administrator's is huge, so start there. Easy as a day trip from Shanghai, but an overnight lets you walk Pingjiang Road after the crowds leave.

The Humble Administrator's fills by 10am. First entry at 7:30 is a different, calmer garden entirely.
Most sights are near central Suzhou station; Suzhou North is far out on the HSR line. Check your ticket.
Both are lovely; Tongli is a touch quieter. Either is an easy bus or DiDi from the city for a half-day.
Beat the crowds by two hours and had the whole canal to myself. Tea house on the corner opens early too.
