Skipped the big cruise, did the Xingping bamboo raft — better & cheaper
Bus to Xingping, ¥120 raft to the ¥20-note viewpoint with barely anyone around. The full Guilin cruise is fine but pricey and packed. Photos and the bus timing in the thread.
The karst-peak postcard: a Li River cruise down to Yangshuo, then days cycling rice paddies and bamboo-rafting the Yulong. Low budget, high payoff, and barely a word of Chinese needed.
Route guide
Li River cruise down to Yangshuo on day one, cycle the Yulong valley on day two, Longji terraces or a cooking class on day three. Base yourself in Yangshuo, not Guilin.

Dry-spell levels mean some Xingping bamboo rafts run a shorter stretch. Check the morning status with your guesthouse before booking the cruise.
Guilin city is just the transit hub. Yangshuo (1–1.5 hr by bus) puts you among the peaks, paddies and West Street — and the cruise ends there anyway.
Jun 15, 05:30. Meet at the West Street KFC. Short steep climb for the best peak-panorama sunrise. Bring a torch. Just show up.
The Zhang Yimou-directed show on the Li River runs nightly in summer — 600 performers on the water. Book the dated ticket; standard seats are fine.

3 days total. Is the 2.5-hr each-way trip to the rice terraces worth a whole day right now, or better to cycle more of the Yulong valley? Flood season any good?
¥30 share-bike for the day, flat paths the whole way, stopped for a bamboo raft under the Dragon Bridge. Greenest, calmest day of the whole trip. Route and photos in the thread.
